Domain Names – Keep It Simple Silly

January 20, 2012 by  Filed under: Domain

Do not in any way make finding a domain name for your website harder than it has to be.

I do not care about all the information that you find that tells you that you need a secret formula, or expensive software to help you find the correct domain name for your website.

I am saddened to hear of so many people spending hours at a time trying to find that perfect domain name. They are so worried that if they find the wrong domain that they will never be able to get on first page of a search engine such as Google or Yahoo.

First of all let me tell you that I am a person who likes the KISS method “Keep It Simple Silly”.

Let me tell you that there are a lot of things that you are going to have to work on that requires you to be precise and exact (well to a point anyway) to achieve your goal of making money online. So why do you want to make more things complicated when they do not have to be?

I did not decide to work on making money online to make it into another job. I know that as soon as I build a solid business structure to where I am making a solid consistent profit, I am going to be able to cut down on the hours worked online and have more time for myself and my family.

So, if I can find a short cut, you had better believe that I am going to take it.

So anyway, back to domains. Content of a website is what the search engines are concerned with, not so much the domain name.

Yes, of course it would be to your advantage to find a relevant domain to the subject you are promoting. Having a relevant domain name is important for your possible customers. A known fact is people that scan the web are somewhat lazy. They do not want to think too hard, so it would behoove you to have a domain name that mentions cats if your site is about cats.

So make it customer/searcher friendly because they are the ones that are going to buy from you, not the search engines.

So, let’s say I made homemade soaps. I would take zero minutes coming up with a domain name because I would keep it simple. I would buy the domain name “homemadesoapsbyjack.com”

Okay, it is not a beautiful domain name, but, it is simple and my customers know what my site is about, right?

Go ahead and spend extra time trying to find the right domain name. I will be moving on to how to make my website profitable.
