The Importance of Picking A Catchy URL to Bring Attention to Your Brand

July 18, 2012 by  Filed under: Domain

One of the first things you will need to do after you pick your niche topic is to pick a catchy URL. You want it to be one that will stand out and that will be easy to remember for those who plan on being return visitors. Where should you start?

To get some ideas and inspiration, take a look at the various keywords that you have singled out for your niche to see if any of those have a catchy ring.

You want it to be kind of “used car salesman” sounding, rather than something that is boring or does not have an original sound to it.

For example, if your niche is “weight loss”, you could try “SuperModelMe”, “Skinny4u”, “HouseofLean”, or “SlimKingdom”.

These will all be original, explain what you niche is, and, most importantly, will be easy to remember.

Many people I’ve spoken to have mentioned that the URL name shouldn’t be so personal to you that others might not understand.

For example, if you used your “lucky” purple cup while losing weight and want to use “purplecupweightloss” as your URL, majority of your audience might not understand the relevance unless you explain yourself or if the purple cup is actually the product you’re trying to sell online.

Let me walk you through how I came up with my URL. I’m in the internet marketing niche, so I looked at the qualities I wanted to convey in terms of achieving success in IM:

  • I wanted to be financially-free to do the things I wanted to do
  • To do that, I needed to be a millionaire (to start)
  • Millionaires generate or have wealth
  • I wanted some level of branding and prestige in the long term
  • A supportive community where like-minded individuals can be friends in success…

Hence, Millionaire, Wealth and Club were the key words I considered.

Remember,

how easy your URL is to remember is the most important so that your visitors will not have any trouble returning and clicking on more affiliate links!

Once you have your own URL chosen, try to get it set up as soon as possible. Check for the availability at various domain sites and pick a reliable host.

Namecheap and HostGator are some recommended providers because their user platforms are simple and easy to use, even for people who have limited knowledge of computer programming, HTML or technical knowhow. To get your website up and running, simply look for tutorials which provide step by step instructions.

Good luck on creating your own website!
